The Spanish Space Design Competition 2025 (SPSDC 2025), organized by the Spanish Space Initiative (SPSIN) in collaboration with the Community of Madrid, brought together over 200 students in Madrid, aged 15 to 18, who faced the ambitious challenge of designing space colonies on Mars. The event showcased outstanding creativity, technical expertise, and a deep commitment to innovation in space exploration.
The SPSDC 2025 was marked by the high level of its participants and the quality of their proposals. The organizing team, led by Pablo Asenjo, Enrique Jiménez, Pablo Gutiérrez, and Lorena Terrón, played a crucial role in ensuring the competition’s success.
Students were divided into five aerospace companies, each presenting unique and innovative solutions for sustainable space colonization:
The SPSDC 2025 was enriched by the support of renowned aerospace institutions, including the European Space Design Competition (EUSDC), United Kingdom Space Design Competition (UKSDC), Space Science & Engineering Foundation (SSEF), International Space Settlement Design Competition (ISSDC), and the Professional Association of Air Traffic Controllers of Spain (APCAE). Their contributions provided valuable resources, mentorship, and industry insights, elevating the competition to an international level.
The success of the SPSDC 2025 reinforces SPSIN’s commitment to fostering scientific and technological vocations in Spain. The event has solidified its place as a premier aerospace competition, inspiring the next generation of engineers and space enthusiasts. Looking ahead, preparations for the SPSDC 2026 are already underway, promising new challenges and an even greater impact on the future of space exploration.
